Access to OpenVMS using putty was created by easton379
I have an Alpha Server 2000 4/275 running OpenVMS 7.3-2 and TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Alpha Version V5.4. I can access my Alpha Server using putty and also over DECwindows (DECterm) using Xming 7-7-0-18 without any issues over my home LAN network.

However, when I try to do the same from the office over the Internet I can't do either.. I can, on the other hand, do it from the office to my CentOS V7server. Is it the version of SSH running on the Alpha that is creating the problem here?

Regards,

Rick

Not enough information here. Are you using PuTTY with telnet or SSH? Accessing a system via the Internet is likely going to involve a firewall. Is a port open in the firewall to the Alpha system?

Both HP Tcpip and Multinet incorrectly create the SSH tunnel to the IP address of the FQDN instead of to the localhost interface.

If the IP address that the ssh tunnel uses is not visible inside the box, such as in a NAT/forwarding arrangement, X11 will not work.

The workaround is after SSH into the box to do a create/display to the 127.0.0.1 ip address.

This bug has been informally reported to both Process and VSI.
